What to Wear with Flats

There are so many great shoes out there — flats and boots, sandals and heels, everything in between. But which ones do you wear with your flats? What about wedges? Or heels? Well, instead of having to worry about choosing the right shoes, we’ve decided to put together a list of ideas for what to wear with your new flats.

This is a question I get asked a lot. I have a lot of flats, and I love them. But what to wear with these? Fashion is subjective, but here are some tips to help you pick out a look that will make the most of those beautiful flats.

When I was younger, I had a pair of black flats that I wore for years. They were good for work and for my daily routine, but I always had to be careful how I dressed them. There are certain outfits that are perfect for flats, and there are certain outfits that are not. Wearing flats with a floral top would be highly inappropriate, for example. Those shoes on your feet are much more than a fashion statement—they are an essential part of your personality.. Read more about how to wear flat shoes on a night out and let us know what you think.

I believe we can all agree that we adore flats. We grab on every comfy fad that comes along and hope it never goes away. So today, I’ve teamed up with Aerosoles to teach you how to rock the trend with these cute perforated flats (a style you’ll see a lot of come spring!). The perforated element gives a little of texture to the trend, which I like.)

Obviously, one of the best things about flats is how comfy they are. I, on the other hand, have a hard time locating ones that are flattering. I’ve found that the trick is to match them with the appropriate pieces. Because flat shoes tend to make you appear shorter, it’s a good idea to wear them with items that lengthen your legs. Here are some things that I believe look best with flats:

1. Jeans with a slim fit

Your flats will look great with a basic skinny denim. They lengthen your legs and are the perfect length for loafers, ballet flats, and smoking slippers.

2. Skinny Jeans

It’s feasible to wear your flats to work with slim ankle pants. They produce a thin profile and allow enough room between the pant and the shoe to assist give length to your legs, similar to skinny jeans.

3. Jeans for your boyfriend

They also look fantastic with flats if your boyfriend jeans aren’t too big. I’d suggest avoiding ballerina flats, which may cut your foot off suddenly, and instead going for loafers or pointed-toe flats, which will make you appear longer. (Shoes in a neutral or tan hue may also help!)

4. Cropped Straight Jeans (New!)

Straight crop jeans or demi-boot jeans, the newest denim style, will look great with your flats this spring. These straight crop jeans are more forgiving than the thin jean and provide just the perfect amount of space between the trouser and your flats.

5. Short Skirts & Dresses

Flats look fantastic with little skirts, A-line dresses, and dresses that fall above the knee because they show off your legs and make you seem taller. If you feel a little uncomfortable in this outfit (as I do! ), go for nude loafers or pointed-toe flats.

Now that we’ve covered what items go well with flats, you may be wondering what doesn’t. Again, this is just my own view, but I try to avoid things that may make me seem shorter, such as the ones listed below:

1. Jeans with a flare or a wide leg

Flare, wide-leg, and even boot-cut jeans, in my opinion, look best when paired with a stiletto. Flats have a tendency to clump up at the bottom, making you seem shorter.

2. Dresses or Midi Skirts

Because midi skirts cut off your leg in an inconvenient place, I feel that they make individuals seem shorter. Wearing flats, on the other hand, may aggravate the issue.

3. Dresses or Maxi Skirts

Because maxi skirts & dresses cover so much skin, wearing them with closed-toe flats can cause a frumpy effect. Flat sandals are fine, but the flats I’m referring to (loafers, ballet flats, etc.) aren’t the ideal match in my opinion.

Which of the following do you think looks best with flats?

The other night I was wearing flats, and I realized that I’m not sure which of my outfits look best with them. So I thought I should spend about 5 minutes of my time trying to figure it out for you guys.. Read more about how to wear flat shoes with jeans and let us know what you think.
