What to Wear Under a Cardigan

Cardigans are one of the most popular fabrics and styles in winter. They’re fashionable, fun and they’re so warm and cozy, that you can’t seem to take them off. But do you know that there are some smart clothes that can be worn under it? Here we give you some tips on how to wear a cardigan under a smart and stylish outfit.

Finding what to wear under a cardigan isn’t easy. You want to look fashionable, but not too trendy. You want to look smart, but not too formal. You want to look nice, but not too sexy. You want to look trendy, but not too sassy. There’s a lot to consider when you want to look great while wearing a cardigan.

It’s the end of Winter. The nights are colder and the days are shorter. It’s time to cover up. It’s time to hide your body with your sweaters, jackets, scarves, and coats. My wardrobe begins to fill up with big cardigans as soon as the temps begin to drop. I’m not sure how these ended up in my closet;). Or I just happened to discover some at Old Navy that were very cheap but absolutely luxurious looking (really, how costly does this one look and it was just $44.94!). I reach for one almost every morning, regardless of how they got into my closet. But, in order to avoid seeming like I’m wearing the same dress every day, I have to change up the layering item below it. So, let’s discuss what to wear beneath a cardigan. Here are a few possibilities:

1. The cufflinks

A basic button-down is the ideal complement to an oversized cardigan, whether it’s plaid or silk. They give intrigue to an ensemble by adding depth to a basic, one-note cardigan. This plaid and oatmeal combo is perfect for autumn. You could definitely wear normal blue jeans with this outfit, but I wanted to go for a beachy California vibe, so I wore my white ones. The second item is a t-shirt.

A basic t-shirt is an easy way to layer just about any cardigan. For a bohemian style, wear a loose-fitting shirt with a lengthy pendant, or a tight tee with a spectacular necklace for a more feminine approach. To spice up the outfit, throw on a graphic T-shirt. Below are some excellent layering t-shirts:

3. The tank made of silk

Combining a sultry top like a silk tank with a warm, casual cardigan is one of my favorite looks. The cardigan dresses down the tank while still allowing you to show a little flesh, making it a perfect choice for a casual date.
