11 Essentials to Keep in Your Travel Makeup Bag – Advice from a 20 Something

As a 20-something lady traveling the world, I’ve found that I need a little extra help with my skin, especially when I’m not in the U.S. or close to a Sephora. I know, I know, every other beauty blogger is singing the praises of the Sephora Collection, but I’m not a huge fan of the brand. While it’s very well-known, there are also plenty of lines that are just as good, if not better, and they aren’t nearly as expensive. I’ve used some of their products (like the SPF generously slathered on), but I’ve always struggled with their packaging. I’ve since learned of a few tricks to help me get the products out of the

You don’t need to have a full-sized travel makeup bag to make yourself feel confident on a flight or in a hotel room. All you really need is a few essentials, like a full-sized mirror, a toothbrush and toothpaste, floss, a small pack of chapstick or lip balm, a small bottle of sunscreen, and a compact. Just keep those essentials in your bag and you won’t need anything else.

Whether you are traveling for work or pleasure, packing your makeup bag on a regular basis to ensure your face is ready for any occasion is essential. From a quick touch up of your lip color to a full face of makeup to bare no expense for your skin, traveling with a makeup bag is essential.

If you’re a cosmetic junkie like me, you know how difficult it is to condense your collection to just a few items to go on vacation. This is particularly true if you’re going to be traveling for a long time and want to vary up your appearance.

You’ll most likely have limited room while preparing your vacation cosmetics kit. This does not, however, imply that you must abandon your beauty regimen! Follow along as we reveal some must-have items to bring on your next trip so you can look and feel your best.

Sunscreen

While this isn’t exactly a cosmetic item, it’s important to have a decent sunscreen on hand while traveling. The kind of sunscreen you need depends on the vacation you’re taking.

If you plan on spending a lot of time at the beach, for example, you’ll almost certainly need a water-resistant sunscreen with a high SPF. This is when Neutrogena’s Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunscreen (with an SPF of 100) comes in handy. If you’re going on a vacation where you won’t be spending much time in the sun, a moisturizer with an SPF of 30 like Aveeno’s Positively Radiant Daily Moisturizer would probably enough.

Moisturizer with a tint

When traveling, a tinted moisturizer is a must-have item. A sheer layer will keep your skin hydrated while still providing some coverage, and it won’t feel too heavy on your skin. Plus, most tinted moisturizers may be applied with your hands, reducing the number of brushes you’ll need to carry.

The Shiseido Urban Environment Tinted UV Protector is a fantastic tinted moisturizer choice. This composition is simple to work with, lightweight, and offers SPF 43 protection. This product may also be stacked for a fuller coverage effect.

Concealer

When it comes to concealer, you’ll want a formula that lasts all day so you don’t have to touch it up. The Clarins Instant Light Brush-On Perfector is one of my faves because it provides exactly the perfect amount of coverage while also brightening the complexion.

This product features a brush applicator that makes swiping and blending with your fingers a breeze. To add a little of a highlight, I like to apply this under my eyes, around my nose, and on the high points of my face.

Powder

A decent face powder is a must-pack item, particularly if you’ll be traveling in a hot, humid environment. The BareMinerals Mineral Veil Finishing Powder is very popular, and for good reason! A little dusting of this powder will keep your makeup in place throughout the day while also combating oil without drying out your skin.

Bronzer

Bronzer has the ability to warm up the face and revitalize the skin. There are many bronzers available in a range of colors to suit various skin tones. The Pixi Beauty Bronzer is one of my faves since it has a lovely shine to it without being sparkly.

I like to sweep this bronzer over my forehead, cheeks, and jawline with a fluffy brush. This bronzer isn’t too pigmented, which is a good thing since you won’t go crazy!

Blush

Cream blushes are ideal for travel since they may be used as a lip color as well. Colourpop’s Blush Stix are available in a variety of colors, ranging from cold pinks to bronzy hues. To use, swiping the product over your cheeks and blending it in with your fingers is all you need to do. The greatest thing about these cream blushes is that they cost less than ten dollars.

Brows

You won’t have a lot of time to apply your makeup while you’re on the road. ELF’s Instant Lift Eyebrow Pencil is a fantastic tool for rapidly filling in your brows.

This twist-up pencil is just $2 at the pharmacy and comes in a number of colors. This pencil includes a spoolie at the end, so you can brush through your brows after filling them in to blend any sharp lines. You won’t have to worry about it fading off during the day since it’s a long-lasting product.

An Easy-to-Use Eyeshadow Palette

If you usually wear makeup, you may be tempted to carry several palettes with you. This, however, may take up a lot of room in your luggage! Instead, choose a narrower palette with the essential colors you’ll need to create a range of styles.

The Sephora Eye Love Eyeshadow Palette is a great travel companion with seven neutral colors. The deeper brown hue may be used as a liner, while the lightest shade can be utilized as a highlighter on the face (which means one less product to pack). This palette also comes in a small compact that won’t take up much room.

Mascara

Mascara may completely change the appearance of your makeup. Choose a mascara that doesn’t smudge or flake while traveling, particularly if you’ll be spending a lot of time outdoors. The L’Oreal Voluminous Mascara is a traditional black formula that adds length and volume to the lashes, and it’s one of my go-tos while I’m on the road.

Lip Balm with a Tint

Because you can put it in your luggage and reapply it on the move, tinted lip balm is ideal for traveling. It will help keep your lips hydrated! Maybelline Baby Lips, for example, is one of several colored lip balms available. The hue ‘Cherry’ provides a lovely splash of pink that complements your natural lip color. The greatest thing is that this pharmacy product costs less than $5!

Spray with rosewater

Last but not least, a rosewater spray, such as Mario Badescu’s Facial Spray with Aloe Herbs and Rosewater, is an excellent travel companion. You may use this spray as part of your skincare regimen at night or in the morning, as a makeup setting mist, or even carry it with you when out and about if you need to refresh your skin during the day. This product is available in a travel version that is ideal for storing in your purse.
