In 2017, it’s about time to start thinking about 2018. And that means making a plan. Whether you want to plan for a party, start a new business venture, make some changes in your life, or just want to do better in general, there are many ways to set your goals, and get organized for the year ahead.
It’s that time of the year again, and while we already know what to expect at this time of the year, there are always some new happenings. The start of a new year always means new resolutions and goals, but do you always keep to those already set? Are there ways to better prepare for the new year?
It’s that time of year again: time to start planning for the new year. But with all the excitement of the holiday season comes the challenge of planning for the new year.
During the final few weeks of the year, we’re typically thinking about the new habits we’ll start, the objectives we’ll set, and the exercises we’ll perform in the new year. But I’ve found that doing a few basic things to be ready for the new year always helps me get off to a better start! So, below, I’ve compiled a list of five methods to be ready for the new year. I hope it is of use to you!
1. Make a list of your achievements.
It’s human nature to be focused on the next task at hand, but if you don’t appreciate what you’ve accomplished, you’ll never enjoy what you do! Make a list of all of your achievements, large and little, over the previous year. Take your time in this section. Consider each month and make a list of everything. Look through your calendar or social media to see what you were up to each month if necessary.
2. Make a list of the most important lessons you’ve learnt thus far.
Making a list of the most important things you’ve learnt from the previous year is a fantastic approach to be ready for the new year. Consider the previous year and make a list of all the lessons you wish to carry over into the new year. If necessary, go to your calendar or social media profiles to refresh your recollection. Also, make sure you don’t teach yourself any lessons that would encourage you to limit yourself or keep yourself tiny. You may create anything you want at any time of year – just make sure it will serve you!
3. Schedule any outstanding appointments.
If you’ve been putting off appointments (like a vehicle service, doctor’s checkup, or dental visit), now is the time to schedule them so they’ll happen in the new year. Don’t allow missed appointments keep you up at night! Decide when you’ll be able to do them and schedule them. Accept that there may never be a ‘good moment’ to go; you may just have to bite the bullet and inconvenience yourself for a day. But it will be well worth the effort! And if you’re having trouble sticking to your goals, check out my article on the actual reasons you can’t keep to your calendar).
4. Organize your closet
Set aside a day to tidy your closet. Remove everything from your closet, clean it well or flip it right side up, and only return the items you like wearing or that serve a functional purpose. Seasonal clothing should be kept in the closet. Donate what you can and sell the rest! You can also see me clear out my closet here if you need some ideas.
Warning: Don’t leave yourself with so few clothing that you feel compelled to go out and buy more; impulsive purchases will almost certainly leave you disappointed in the long run. If you’ve become tired of your existing collection, make a list of the items you’d want to replace, conduct some research, and replace them when you have the funds. I’ve been using this site a lot lately to help me figure out my own style and build a wardrobe I’ll enjoy.
5. Make improvements to your environment
We’re not always practical, and we’ll forego buying items we’ll need every day in order to purchase something beautiful we’ll only use once in a while. Examine the items you see and use on a regular basis and, if necessary, replace them. Simple items like a new pillow, a desk plant, a comfy desk chair, attractive undergarments, or a good hairdryer may make a big difference in how you feel about your life!
